The Imagination Tree created a Play Dough Garden Center and used it as pretend play. She used a chocolate play dough recipe for the mud play dough which inspired me to create a play dough recipe from actual mud (not edible).
Side note: I’ve made edible chocolate play dough before as well and it is super easy with hot chocolate mix!
Mud Dough Recipe
Adjust the recipe depending on how much dough you need. The recipe takes about 5 minutes to mix up and you likely have all the ingredients at home already. This is a fun way to carry over play and learning into the outdoors!
- measuring cups
- mixing bowl
- olive oil
Scoop up 1 cup of dirt from outside. Put this dirt into a mixing bowl. Add 1 cup of water to the dirt and stir together. Then add 1.5 cups of flour, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch. Adjust flour and water amounts for different consistencies. I suggest having your children mix with their hands for a sensory experience. It will be slimy at first, but will eventually begin to form a sticky paste and then your solid play dough!
